❄️ Snow in Mānoa?! Nah, it’s just our flowering ʻŌhiʻa ʻai keʻokeʻo (white mountain apple) but the fallen stamens sure do look like a blanket of snow in the Kaʻahaʻaina garden! This Polynesian introduced tree is a relative of our endemic ʻōhiʻa lehua. Fruit, said to taste similar to pear with a hint of florals, can be eaten raw or made into preserves and pickles. Our innagural Watershed Camp 2024 was nourishing indeed!💧⛰️ Middle school campers spent their Fall break learning about the importance of native forests to Hawaiʻiʻs watersheds, their allies (kāhuli) and their threats (ungulates). Our innagural Watershed Camp 2024 was nourishing indeed!💧⛰️ Middle school campers spent their Fall break learning about the importance of native forests to Hawaiʻiʻs watersheds, their allies (kāhuli) and their threats (ungulates). The culmination of learning was documemted in nature journals and shared in PSA presentations for ʻohana. One passionate camperʻs PSA slogan warns us… “SAVE IT OR DEAD ☠️ “ Period.
